Samarathon is a desert singletrack MTB team event, celebrating its 5th year in 2019. From a 2-stage race with a hundred riders in 2015, Samarathon grew and developed and we are proud to present you this year with a race of prologue + 3 stages. The courses, two of which are circular and two point-to-point, will start at the Makhtesh Ramon area in the Negev and end in the Southern Arava and Eilat Mountains. Another big step forward in 2019 is Samarathon becoming a fully sanctioned UCI race.

Desert riding is unique and may be very different from your familiar rides. You may face hot weather even in the middle of winter; no trees, vegetation or shade; sandy or loose terrain; unending ascents and super-flowing singletracks with perfect traction, designed and built by riders for riders. This means that Samarathon is aimed at tough and seasoned mountain-bikers who can wrestle with 4 long riding days in harsh desert conditions. Those facing the challenge will get to relax in the wild and awesome Riders’ Village with delicious food, cold drinks, fresh fruit shakes, music and more of the famous hospitality of Samarathon.

Samarathon is a team race which means that all participant race in teams of two: Starting together, riding together, crossing the finish line together. Timing and results are per team - there is no individual ranking.

The categories are based on gender or age (the age category is according to the younger of the two team members):

  • Women
  • Mixed
  • Men (under 39)
  • Masters (40+)
  • Grand Masters (50+)

To win the finisher's medal the team must complete all the courses from the begginning of the prologue to the end of the 3rd stage and to make it within the official daily cut-off times which will be detailed in the Rules & Regulations of the race.
